Ladies of Leisure | Chelsea Mooney Founder of Terrae Collective

Our column Ladies of Leisure is an interview series with interesting and inspiring women, where we talk about their morning routines, advice they have for other female entrepreneurs and their favorite way to spend leisure time

Meet Chelsea Mooney, founder of Terrae Collective, a brand inspired by and built on three values:
1. Planet & People over Profit always.
2. Design Intentionally with Mother Earth in Mind.
3. Wellbeing above All Else.

These three principles became non-negotiable to Chelsea after spending over a decade in the fashion industry where she learned what lies beneath the surface of the seemingly glamorous world. Taking the experience she’s gained from working for brands including Rachel Zoe and Madewell, Chelsea’s next venture is all about incorporating a mindset of wellbeing for people & planet into an industry laden with burnout and pollution.

What is your company and what do you do?
Terrae Collective is a wellness and lifestyle brand founded on the importance of prioritizing self care and wellbeing, offering meditation accessories like candles and eye masks, as well as tips and resources. Terrae began as a way to create beautiful things that help people create an oasis in their home where they can unwind and find pure bliss. A way to remind people to put themselves and their health above all else, and to take a breath, a break, have a laugh or whatever else they need in that moment. A way to ensure that if more product is being put on this Earth, it’s being made with the best and safest materials and by people who are fairly treated, respected and happy. A way to create an environment where employees are proud of their work, fulfilled and encouraged to follow their passions. An environment where all people are celebrated and welcome. We're here to shift the status quo from a culture of hustle mentality and burnout to one of happiness, balance and wellbeing.

How do you start your morning? Give us a play by play-- time you get up, 3-5 things you do to start your day.
The first thing I do when I wake up is walk my dogs. It's not only necessary for them, but beneficial for me as way to get my body moving first thing in the morning. When we come back in, I make myself a cup of tea. I love a classic cup of green tea or something with a little more kick, like a lemon ginger. While my tea is steeping I do a light yoga flow, I love doing sun salutations to start the day. Then, in savasana, I like to meditate and enjoy my cup of tea. Sometimes I'll meditate for up to 30 minutes, but if I've got a busy day ahead I find that even 15 minutes is enough for me. On some days, I'll even make a second cup as I enter the day!

What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs looking to create healthier and invigorating morning routines and habits?
Find time every day to do something for yourself! Even if that is just 15 minutes, set aside time to do something that relaxes or grounds you each day. It can be so easy to push self care aside when we get busy, but it's so important to remember that you come first, your health comes first, and only when those things are practiced can you unlock true badassery and success in all aspects of life.

What are some of your favorite leisure activities?
Being out in nature, so either on a hike, paddleboarding or kayaking, sitting by the beach. I also love a good bath. I like quiet activities because I am constantly busy so being somewhere peaceful helps calm my mind.

Share a favorite affirmation that other female entrepreneurs could benefit from.
I am capable and deserving of achieving my goals. I have the stamina and patience to build my dream future. I have the passion to create beneficial change.
